Earlier this month, Murex, a leading software engineering company, invited three student teams from the LAU School of Engineering to be recognized and awarded for their capstone projects at the company’s Beirut office.

The students, along with the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department Chair Dani Tannir, toured the premises and met with the company’s cofounder Salim Eddé. Urging the senior students to stay in Lebanon after graduation, Eddé invited them to apply for work at Murex where, he said, more than 150 LAU alumni were currently employed.

Dr. Tannir expressed his pride in the ongoing partnership with the company, as the capstone awards have grown into an annual tradition fortifying the university’s links to leaders in the industry. “This is a testament to the quality of our programs, and the high caliber of our faculty and students,” he said, thanking Murex for the prestigious awards and for recognizing innovation, collaboration and excellence in the field of engineering and technology.

The three winning teams were collectively awarded $4,500 in monetary prizes, as follows:

Computer Engineering majors Charbel Medlej and Mohamad Mostafa Hareb, along with Mechatronics Engineering majors Mohamad Mrad and Mohamed Smaili earned the Most Innovative Development Project Award for Artemis, an adaptive dependent care system that they had devised.

Dr. Tannir revealed that two of the winning students have already been offered jobs with Murex this year and that many others have successfully landed internships and job opportunities with the company throughout recent years.

“We look forward to strengthening our partnership with Murex,” he said.
