LAU welcomed students in Grades 10 and 11 on its Byblos for a day full of activities designed to introduce them to university life.

For high-school students, the transition to university life is filled with excitement, uncertainty, and, most importantly, tough decisions. It begins with choosing an academic major, from the many available ones and it ends by deciding on which university to attend.

To simplify the decision-making process as well as to guide them through transformative choices that shape their futures, LAU welcomed students in Grades 10 and 11 on its Byblos campus for its YOU@LAU event, a day full of activities designed to introduce them to the university, with its blend of education, state-of-the-art facilities and technology, student services, sports, clubs, networking opportunities and avenues for self-development.

This year’s event held special significance as it fell on the same year as LAU’s Centennial, marking 100 years of academic empowerment and educational innovation. What started as a college for women has transformed into a leading educational hub, welcoming students of all genders, ages and backgrounds to grow into their identities, and set sail to their professional and personal paths.

“Today, I look at you and I see history,” said Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management Abdo Ghie, addressing more than 1,500 students from almost 250 high schools from across Lebanon. “Take this day as an opportunity to explore various academic programs through interactive sessions designed by each of LAU’s schools, which one day could be your home.”

During these sessions, the high schoolers engaged with LAU students, faculty and staff and learned about the range of services available at the university, from academic advising and career counseling, to merit scholarships and financial aid options.

Those interested in taking the lab tour got to see LAU’s state-of-the-art facilities and research opportunities, gaining a clearer view of the academic paths in the student-centered learning environment.

Entertainment played a major role throughout the event, with games, competitions, lively music and a parade adding to the festive atmosphere. Entrepreneurial LAUers showcased their business ventures, in turn emphasizing the university’s involvement in their success.

These interactions, while providing an overview of all majors, gave the attendees a fresh perspective on university life and its vibrant campus community of clubs and institutes, not to mention LAU’s commitment to ensuring student success and wellbeing, both inside and outside the classroom.

By the end of the day, they were left with a clearer idea of what awaits them in their future at LAU, its ever-giving legacy, and its forward-thinking vision.
