In a new initiative to foster creativity, innovation and hands-on learning, the LAU Libraries introduced the Creative Space, a dynamic hub for students, faculty, and staff to transform their ideas into reality.

This collaborative environment for exploration and experimentation was established as part of LAU’s commitment to enhancing experiential learning through technology, design, and creativity across various disciplines, and LAU Libraries’ mission to promote learning through hands-on experience. It serves as a catalyst for interdisciplinary engagement, encouraging users to ideate, design, and prototype innovative solutions that bridge the gap between academia and real-world applications.

To mark its launch, LAU hosted a ceremony on October 13, 2025, on the 10th floor of the Riyad Nassar Library, Beirut campus, where it is situated, in the presence of LAU President Chaouki T. Abdallah, Provost George E. Nasr, vice presidents, Assistant Provost for Educational Resources and Innovation Jordan Srour, and members of the LAU community. Together, they led the ribbon-cutting, celebrating this milestone in the university’s ongoing investment in innovation-driven education.

At the event, President Abdallah remarked on the apt naming of Creative Space. “It’s really about everybody, every member of this community, being able to come and create,” he said. “We talked a lot about how it’s not just about what the market needs, but it’s really about the legacy of LAU as a base for American education, liberal arts, and creativity. And I think this space is really a great example of that.”

Following the inauguration, Technology and Innovation Manager Hani Salem guided guests through the new facility, showcasing its cutting-edge features and creative zones designed to spark imagination and collaboration.

The Creative Space integrates a range of advanced technologies and work areas that encourage experimentation and cross-disciplinary creativity. Among these is the 3D Printing and Scanning Lab, where users can design, prototype, and fabricate physical models with precision. The Fabric Innovation Corner offers sewing and embroidery machines for textile design and material exploration, while the AI & Digital Design Hub provides high-performance systems for AI-driven design, modeling, and visualization. Complementing these zones are flexible collaborative work areas that foster teamwork, ideation, and interdisciplinary project development.

During the open house, attendees explored the tools, interacted with the Creative Space team, and discovered how these technologies can enhance academic, artistic, and professional growth.

More than just a facility, the Creative Space at LAU stands as a launchpad for innovation and creative exploration, a place where creativity meets technology, ideas take shape, and the future is imagined together.
