The sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 genomes at LAU has identified the Omicron variant in two suspected cases in Lebanon. The findings were based on samples sent by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to the LAU Pathogenomics Lab headed by Dr. Sima Tokajian, professor of microbial genomics at the School of Arts and Sciences. The lab has been a reference for the MoPH and the World Health Organization in confirming circulating variants in the country.
