LAU Athletes Bring Home Trophies from Athens and Belgrade
Captains and Sailors do their alma mater proud, collecting a tournament cup and numerous titles at both international competitions.
In an unwavering display of commitment to athletics and excellence, LAU’s Captains and Sailors delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 International Sports Festival held in Athens and the Belgrade International Student Sport Tournament, securing multiple podium finishes and champion titles after facing off with international peers.
LAU varsity teams competing in the 2025 International Sports Festival hosted by the American College of Greece-Deree College took on teams from nine other higher-education institutions from Lebanon, Italy, UAE, Bulgaria and Greece.
The Women’s Basketball team won first place.
The Women’s Soccer team placed second.
The Men’s Soccer team also placed second.
The Swimming team collectively won 13 medals, with the men’s and women’s overall teams placing third.
In Belgrade, LAU athletes showcased their exceptional talents and brought home the 2025 Tournament Cup.
The Men’s Football team won first place by a landslide.
The Men’s Tennis team won the championship, with Arman Gara Bedian securing first place.
The Women’s Tennis team achieved both first and second place, with Vanessa Jifetdjian winning the title and Maria Ghaleb finishing as the runner-up.
The Women’s Table Tennis team also placed both first and second, with Lori Yahnian winning the gold medal and Hala Damaj taking the silver medal.
The Women’s Basketball team placed second.
The Men’s Futsal team came second.
The Women’s Futsal team took third prize.
The Men’s Table Tennis team finished third.
“Our student athletes showcased exceptional talent, sportsmanship, and determination, resulting in significant victories and well-deserved overall championships,” said Lead Director of Athletics Joe Moujaes, adding that their unprecedented level of camaraderie, their commendable representation of LAU, and their outstanding achievements continue to be a source of pride for the university.
